The practice

Walking is a ritual for storytelling

Stories are everywhere. Encounters in the street. A message scrawled on a wall. Footprints disappearing on a shoreline. I walk, listen, take notes and photos, looking for the patterns and rhythms all around, the stories waiting to be told. “Walking,” writes Rebecca Solnit, “is a state in which mind, body and world are aligned …”

04 / Storylarking workshops

Walking and writing workshops

Like mudlarkers combing the Thames foreshore at low tide, Storylarking workshops invite participants to walk together, gathering notes, images and recordings. Through collage and counterpoint, the process layers observation with personal reflection, mythology and connection to the wider world, shaping it all into new writing.

About Annemarie

Writer / Artist

I’m an Italian-Australian writer and walking artist based in London. I write stories, audio pieces and short films, and make walking works that weave together place, reflection, memory and myth.

I’m co-director of walk · listen · create, an international platform for walking arts, where I edit, curate and write. I also collaborate with WALC, a European project for walking art.

I have worked as a cultural journalist in the UK, France and Australia and hold a PhD in Cultural Studies focused on urban walking, writing and psychogeography.

I like to walk in cities, by the sea, and in my ancestral Aeolian Islands.
